The Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs invites you to an address by HE Mr Fausto Mariano Lopez Crozet - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Argentina to New Zealand

Ambassador Fausto López Crozet is a career diplomat, first graduating as a lawyer from the School of Law and Social Sciences at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in 1989. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993 after two years of studies at the National Foreign Service Institute. He specialised in Public International Law at the Universidad de la República (Montevideo, Uruguay) 2001/ 2002.

As a diplomat he served in the Directorate of Antarctic Affairs for two periods (1993-1997 and 2008-2011) before becoming the Director General of the division from 2012 to 2016. Between 2004 and 2008, he served at the Chief of Staff Office for the Commerce and International Economic Relations Secretariat. Overseas, he served at the Argentine Embassy in the Republic of Uruguay between 1997 and 2004, and at the UNASUR General Secretariat (Quito, Ecuador) in 2011/ 2012.

In multilateral diplomacy, he has been part of the Argentine Delegations to the main Antarctic fora since 1994, including several Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings, as well as for the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, acting as Head of Delegation in both fora as from 2011 and 2012 respectively. He also acted as delegate at meetings of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research, the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programmes and the National Administrators of Latin American Antarctic Programmes.
