August-December 2020

This 200-hour, remote internship with Mexico is available for current postgraduate students studying at any NZ university or early career professionals in the cultural sector with an interest in learning about and promoting Latin American cultures and language.

You will work remotely with a Mexican cultural institution, and alongside a Mexican intern, on projects designed to develop your skills to work collaboratively in intercultural contexts and build cultural partnerships with Mexico. You will also be involved in researching potential topics and gathering materials that will contribute to the development of an exhibition about contemporary Mexican life and culture for New Zealand audiences.

You will complete the 200 hours on a flexible part-time basis between August and December 2020 and receive a stipend of $3000. The internship will be coordinated by the Museum & Heritage Studies (MHST) programme at Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) and Escuela Nacional de Conservación, Restauración y Museografía (ENCRyM) in Mexico as part of a project funded by the Latin America Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence.

This unique opportunity to gain international experience in the cultural sector will suit someone who is curious, adaptable, a great communicator with intercultural skills and open to new challenges.

You will show a commitment to using the internship experience to develop and promote greater awareness of Mexican culture, and to explore intercultural partnerships and understanding more broadly through your studies and/or professional activities.

Ideally you will have intermediate level spoken Spanish, but if you have basic Spanish and a strong motivation to improve your language skills, we would encourage you to apply if you otherwise meet the criteria for this internship. For more information please contact Lee Davidson ([email protected]).

Applications close Monday, July 17, 2020.

Please send your CV and cover letter to [email protected]. Short-listed candidates will be invited to an interview.
