Together with the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), we held our fifth workshop of the Market Insights Programme, focusing this time on "Doing business with Latin America".

The workshops are an opportunity for our students and participating businesses to hear from experts on a particular theme or aspect of doing business internationally. They are also a great opportunity for questions and networking.

The evening opened with presentations from two senior government officials with huge experience working in Latin America. Trish Ranstead, Manager for International Relations at the Ministry of Primary Industries, talked about current primary industry trade activity between New Zealand and Latin America and about some of the key partnerships and agricultural cooperation agreements we have in the region. Brendan Mahar, International Market Manager for Latin America at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, provided some key insights into NZTE's work helping New Zealand companies access existing connections, government influence and local knowledge in Latin America.

A fast-paced presentation session then followed - as four inspiring speakers shared their experiences working and living in Latin America. Their thought-provoking talks, and selection of compelling supporting images, prompted a great question and answer session among the audience of students and participating businesses.

Thanks again to Trish Ranstead and Brendan Mahar for their valuable insights and to our other speakers for the evening:

  • Nick Fitzpatrick, Independent Primary Industries Consultant
  • Lisa Futschek, Regional Director, Americas and Europe, Education NZ
  • Juan-Luis Toledo, Business Development Manager, Agriculture Services Limited, and
  • Paulo Araújo, Sales Development Manager for New Zealand & Pacific for Ritchy Group.
